Jeff finds himself in Silicon Valley where he is asked to investigate claims by a gregarious Frenchman that his neural network electronic technology actually works. He meets up again with the enchanting Nancy, the FBI agent he had worked with in Atlanta where they fell in love while he was still married, and again in Washington DC where fortune kept them apart. A surprise meeting with Kathy puts romance back into Jeff’s life as he finds himself hounded by financially-desperate Europeans so determined to push their questionable technology―men so desperate that they will stop at nothing, even Jeff’s murder. The excitement will make the reader gasp, tragedy will make the reader cry, romance will make the reader sigh.

Friday
8:49 PM: Arrived
Soon the mini-van was downtown pulling up in front of a four-story
building with a long canopy from the front door to the street.
"Okay, here we are!" Donna declared. "Kids stay here,
your Dad's had a long week and we will just be a minute." She climbed out
of the car, the sliding door opened, Kathy
emerging. Jeff opened his door to get out, turning leaning back in to kiss and
hug his kids.
"So the great ferry adventure is set for tomorrow?" his
daughter responded an enthusiastic yes! "Well have a great time and I want
to hear all about it! And you Scott, I'll see you for the next den meeting on
Monday night, right?" his son said yes, that he can hardly wait to show
off his paleontology project. He kissed them both again for the joy of it and
his missing them during his crazy week in Silicon Valley .
He got to the curb the suitcases were out, Kathy
handing him his computer bag. The women hugged again, Donna reached to Jeff
with a quick peck on the cheek.
"Bye you two. Call me tomorrow!" she turned to the car getting
in, a second later the car was gone.
"Whew!" Jeff turned to Kathy, looked up at the awning, back to
her. "Yes, you look just like you belong here, come on, let's go upstairs."
A quick elevator ride later Jeff unlocked the door opening it, Kathy walking in first pulling her luggage. Jeff
followed.
"Oh, Jeff, this is beautiful!"
"Come on, let me give you a tour." They walked together from
room to room showing her the big gourmet kitchen with the large island, both
telling the other that they like to cook, the large living room, the family
room, the third bedroom which he uses for his office. The living areas were all
done in modern, very clean, light switches everywhere, every room richly filled
with light, the walls in a light tan with the slightest hint of yellow. "It
has two master bedrooms," they turned into the second bedroom, "This
one is the smaller one. This will be Hannah's room," they walked in,
opening the walk-in closet, turning to the huge bathroom.
"Yes, she will love this!
And how about the other master bedroom?" she winked.
"Oh, that room! Well follow me!" They walked back out of the
room, he glanced toward the luggage, "Let's leave that until tomorrow, I don't
think we're going to need any clothes tonight."
He hooked his arm in hers
leading her into the large master bedroom, flicked a wall switch to turn on a
bed-side lamp.
She turned to him, they fell together in a deep impassioned kiss, he set
her on the bed kneeling in front of her.
"Listen, it has been a crazy week, we got what, two hours of sleep
last night? And who knows how long we'll both last. But you have given me all
these surprises…"
"You liked them, right?"
"Oh yes! Yes! They were definitely
surprises. But yes. They were all good!"
He looked up at her loving face. Her perfect loving face. He smiled that
here was this woman, the woman that had been through so many events with him.
The woman who had so carefully found her way into his life. The woman who had
given him courage.
"But I need to ask you something. Courage." She looked at him quizzically. "I have heard
that word so many times this week from women."
"Jeffery, what have you been up to this week while I was gone?"
"Nothing, I never had sex with anyone," remembering his and
Lin's definition of sex, Paula's
reinforcement of that definition. "But
two other women used that term, that I had given them courage to pursue men…to
pursue love that they didn't have the guts to do before…well, me…somehow I did
something that helped them. And just now Donna said that. That I had given her
courage to pursue this Gary .
I don't understand."
She looked down to him, him kneeling before her like a knight before his
queen.
"Jeff Jeff Jeff. You don't see it do you?"
"See what?"
"The love in your eyes, in your face. You have a face that…that
holds promise. Any woman looks into those beautiful hazel eyes and wants to run
her fingers through that dark curly hair. And then she would see the promise of
love in you. You make them want that promise. Not from you maybe," he gave
a soft comical pout, she laughed, "oh, honey, sorry to hurt your feelings.
But it's true. It's funny there mister Jeff. All your women corralled around
you trying to help you. But it is you that made us do this. You did give us the courage. Donna. Nancy . Me. Who knows how
many others."
"Others?" he laughed.
She pushed on his shoulders, "There better not be too many others!"
Reaching her fingers into his hair swirling them around with a soft
laugh pulling him to her she kissed his lips softly.
"You are a very special man mister Jeff. I am so glad you found me.
I could never imagine that I would find you. But the minute I saw you, yes,
even in that singles mixer at the hotel in DC. I knew. I could see it. Promise.
I realize now that I wasn't intimidated by you. Well I was. But I saw the
promise. That's why I was afraid of you. And that night together at the bar. I
could see how loving you are. That was the minute I fell in love with you."
She laughed, "You know, I never thought I'd say this, but it was a good
thing that Nancy
barged in on us like she did." He looked to her, wonder painted across his
eyes. "If she hadn't then we might not be here now. No, I'm sure we wouldn't
be here now. Something else would have happened." She laughed, "But
so you know, I don't intend to call her to thank her!" they both laughed
lightly.
He stayed kneeled silently looking up into her dark eyes that even in
this low light were sparkling with the promises of love forever with this
amazing woman, those soft circles of green corralling deep chocolate.
Jeff smiled, "You know, I have a big surprise for you too, but I am
so tired I can't bear to do it now. Tomorrow. You will be very pleased. But I
am soooooo exhausted after this week, after all these surprises. Tomorrow."
He tried to imagine how surprised she will be when she sees the ten
Bearer Bonds.
They both stood, he sat on the bed pulling her to him looking up into
her captivating deep coffee eyes, "I just wanted to say, welcome home."
She smiled tenderly, flashed precocious, "Listen, let me go freshen
up, okay?" She leaned over to kiss him. "Just lay down. Here,"
she pulled him up. "Wait here for me, I'll only be a few minutes."
Smiling, Jeff got up laying on the bed, she turned to the bathroom. He
heard the water running.
Five minutes later she opened the bathroom door stepping out to the bed naked,
her sensuous figure with firm breasts, nipples that fit so perfectly into his
mouth, her scant pubes revealing her secret crevice, all topped with a come here smile. She looked down
expecting to see his enthusiastic face over his undressed body. She smiled,
looking down at her man.
Sound asleep.
She stepped to him, knew better than to try to disturb him. It was clear
that he was done for the night. She sat on the bed looking down lovingly at his
sleeping face that had an expression she tried to measure.
Tranquility.
Immeasurable tranquility.
A peace in his expression.
Trying to imagine all the things that happened this week, only two hours
of sleep last night.
And all these little surprises!
She stood up, pulled off his shoes, tugged at his socks, undid his
pants, pulled on the legs sliding them off smiling at the sexy black underwear.
She rolled him over pulling down the blankets managing to tussle him under the
covers. Turning out the lamp she climbed under the covers with him, still naked,
her head on his shoulder.
Their first meeting when they couldn't wait to get away from each other.
That night at the bar laughing, beginning to fall in love with him.
Her being discovered naked with him by Nancy .
The treacherous goods she brought to his room that night when she was so
angry with him.
Their meeting again this last Monday night. Get a room! How that seemed like a century ago.
And their glorious night together, only last night. Only twenty four
hours ago. How that now seemed like a millennium past.
And now.
Here.
She felt mist in her eyes snuggling the sleeping form next to her, his
regular breathing filling the room's soft darkness. "Yes. Thank you mister
Jeff. Thank you."
"We have arrived."
